Galveston County · Surfaces & Lighting
From islands and vanities to bars and built-in desks, we plan countertop surfaces across Galveston County. Friendswood projects start with a free in-home estimate.
Friendswood is a city between Houston and League City, mostly in Galveston County with a portion in Harris County. Founded by Quaker settlers, it has a quiet, wooded character, with established neighborhoods along FM 518 and Clear Creek. Pearland lies to the west, and the Clear Lake area and NASA are a short drive east.
Friendswood has many 1970s through 1990s homes on tree-shaded lots and newer subdivisions on its edges. Older homes call for kitchen remodels, soffit removal and new trim, while two-story homes often want stair rail updates. Some neighborhoods near Clear Creek have flooded, so raised bases come up in planning.
Older homes in Friendswood often still have tile or laminate counters on cabinets that have settled over the decades. Before stone goes on, we check the cabinets for level and soundness, repair water damage at the sink base and add support where needed. Walls in older homes are rarely straight, so careful templating and well-planned backsplashes help the new countertops fit cleanly.
Every project starts with an in-home measurement in Friendswood. We build in our Houston shop and the same crew handles installation, so the person you talk to at the estimate is accountable for the result. Learn more about our full countertops & surface work service.
You do not have to manage a separate countertop vendor and cabinet installer who blame each other when something does not fit. We handle the coordination and take responsibility for how the cabinets and tops come together.
We level and shim base cabinets to within a sixteenth of an inch across the run, add solid blocking at seams and sink bases, and install steel supports for overhangs. A flat, rigid base is the best protection against cracked stone.
Slab sizes limit how long a single piece can be, so we plan seam locations during design, keeping them away from sinks and cooktops and where they will be least visible, rather than letting a fabricator decide on the day of templating.
We explain the real-world differences between quartz, granite, marble, solid surface and wood, including heat resistance, staining, etching and maintenance, so you choose a surface that suits how you actually cook and clean.

Houston slab foundations can shift slightly with the expansive clay soils common in the region, which is one more reason we set cabinets carefully level and add solid support at seams. Stone does not tolerate flex, so a rigid base matters. Humidity affects wood tops more than stone, so butcher block near sinks needs a well-maintained finish on all sides, including the underside. Outdoor kitchens and covered patios face heat, UV and moisture, and some quartz products are not rated for outdoor use, so we recommend granite or other suitable materials there. Older homes often have walls that bow, so we template carefully and use backsplashes to cover small gaps.
Salt air, high humidity and storm exposure define this county. We build with plywood boxes, sealed edges and finishes chosen for damp conditions, and we steer coastal homeowners toward corrosion-resistant hardware. In elevated homes, kitchens can see wider temperature and humidity swings, so stable door construction matters. For ground-level homes in flood-prone areas, we can plan raised bases and moisture-tolerant materials for the lowest components.
As a general planning range, installed countertops in Greater Houston often run about $50 to $120 per square foot for quartz and granite, $40 to $90 for solid surface, and $100 to $200 or more for premium marble and quartzite. A typical kitchen may need 40 to 60 square feet. Pricing varies with materials and site conditions, so get a written estimate.
