Kitchen Remodels in Houston, TX

Full kitchen remodels planned around custom cabinetry, with one local team handling design, shop work and installation.

A kitchen remodel touches nearly every trade in the house: demolition, plumbing, electrical, cabinetry, countertops, tile, trim and paint. Ace Kustoms approaches a kitchen remodel from the cabinetry out, because the cabinets set the layout, the counter heights, the appliance openings and most of what you see. We build those cabinets in our Houston shop and install them with the same team that plans the job.

In Greater Houston, most kitchen remodels fall into a few patterns. Older ranch homes from the 1950s through the 1970s often have closed galley kitchens with soffits, low ceilings and a wall that homeowners want opened to the living area. Homes from the 1990s and 2000s tend to have dated cabinets, tile counters and an awkward island. Newer homes often need storage, a better pantry and an upgrade from builder-grade finishes.

Our remodels typically include custom kitchen cabinets, counters, a tile backsplash, trim, and lighting coordination. When a project includes structural changes or relocating gas lines, licensed specialists handle those portions under permit while our team keeps the schedule tied together. See finished kitchens in our gallery or schedule a free in-home estimate. During that visit we measure, check plumbing and wall structure, and talk honestly about which changes give you the most for your budget.

Why choose Ace Kustoms for kitchen remodels

Cabinetry-first planning

Because we design and build the cabinets ourselves, the layout is drawn around real box sizes, door swings and appliance specs rather than whatever a catalog offers. That avoids the filler strips, dead corners and awkward reaches common in off-the-shelf remodels.

One point of contact

You deal with one team from measure to walkthrough. The people who plan your kitchen remodel are in the shop building it and on site installing it, so questions get answered by someone who actually knows the details.

Solid materials throughout

Cabinet boxes are furniture-grade plywood, faces are solid hardwood, and drawers ride on full-extension soft-close slides. Combined with quartz, stone or solid surface counters, the kitchen is built to handle daily cooking for many years.

Realistic scheduling

We sequence demolition, rough-in, cabinet install, templating, counters and tile so each step is ready for the next. Cabinets are built while early work happens, which shortens the time your kitchen is out of service.

Trim and finish details

Crown molding, light rails, scribe molding, finished end panels and appliance panels are part of our normal scope, not an afterthought. Those details are what make a remodeled kitchen look built-in instead of assembled.

Licensed and insured

Ace Kustoms is licensed and insured, and we pull or coordinate permits for work that requires them, such as electrical circuits or plumbing moves, so the remodel holds up at resale inspection.

Styles, materials and options

Cabinet refresh remodel

Keep the existing layout and plumbing, replace cabinets, counters, backsplash and lighting. This is the most common scope for 1990s and 2000s homes and often takes three to five weeks on site once cabinets are ready.

Layout change and island

Move or add an island, relocate the range or sink, and rework the work triangle. Islands typically need 42 to 48 inches of clear aisle on working sides, so we confirm the room can support one before committing.

Opening a wall

Removing a wall between kitchen and living space is common in older ranch homes. A non-load-bearing wall is straightforward; a bearing wall needs a beam sized by an engineer. We assess this at the estimate.

Pantry and storage upgrades

Convert a reach-in closet into a cabinet pantry with roll-outs, add a pantry wall of tall cabinets, or build a butler station between kitchen and dining. Storage additions are often the most appreciated part of a remodel.

Countertop and backsplash

Quartz, granite, marble and solid surface are all options. Backsplashes range from 3-by-6 subway tile to full-height slab. We coordinate templating after cabinets are set so overhangs and seams land where planned.

Lighting and ceiling work

Removing soffits, adding recessed cans, pendants over the island and under-cabinet LED strips change how a kitchen feels more than almost anything else. Wiring is handled by licensed electricians and coordinated with our cabinet layout.

Our process

  1. In-home consultation. We measure the kitchen, look at plumbing, electrical and wall structure, talk about how you cook and entertain, and discuss budget. This is where we flag load-bearing walls, slab plumbing and other constraints.
  2. Design and selections. You get a drawn layout with elevations and choose cabinets, counters, tile, hardware and fixtures from real samples. We finalize appliance models early because their dimensions drive the cabinet plan.
  3. Demolition and rough-in. We protect floors and adjacent rooms, remove the old kitchen, and complete any wall, plumbing or electrical changes. Meanwhile, your cabinets are being built and finished in our Houston shop.
  4. Cabinets, counters and tile. Our crew installs and levels the cabinets, then counters are templated and installed. Backsplash tile, trim, appliance hookups and lighting follow in sequence so each trade works on finished surfaces.
  5. Final walkthrough. We test drawers, doors and appliances, adjust hardware, touch up paint and trim, and walk the kitchen with you. Remaining items go on a written punch list we complete promptly.

What affects the cost

  • Scope is the biggest factor, from a cabinet-and-counter refresh to moving walls, plumbing and gas lines.
  • Cabinet linear footage, wood species and finish set a large share of the budget.
  • Countertop material and the number of seams, cutouts and edge profiles change cost noticeably.
  • Structural work such as removing a bearing wall or soffits with hidden ductwork adds engineering and labor.
  • Appliance choices affect both cost and cabinet design, especially panel-ready refrigerators and wall ovens.

As a general planning range, a mid-scope kitchen remodel in Greater Houston with custom cabinets, quartz counters and tile backsplash often runs about $45,000 to $90,000, while larger remodels with layout changes can exceed $100,000. These numbers vary widely with size, materials and site conditions, so get a written estimate based on your actual kitchen.

Built for Houston conditions

Most Houston homes sit on concrete slabs, so moving a sink or adding an island prep sink usually means cutting the slab to reroute drain lines, which adds cost and time. Older homes may also have cast iron drains that are worth inspecting with a camera before the new kitchen goes in. Humidity affects material choices: plywood cabinet boxes, sealed sink bases and quality grout all matter more here than in drier climates. Soffits in 1970s homes sometimes hide ductwork or plumbing, so we open a small section early to see what is inside. Summer heat also matters for scheduling, since an open exterior wall or disabled AC zone during August is hard on both crew and materials.

Kitchen Remodels FAQs

How long does a kitchen remodel take?
A cabinet and counter replacement without layout changes typically takes three to five weeks on site, plus six to ten weeks of design and shop time beforehand. Remodels with wall removal, slab plumbing or permits can take eight to twelve weeks on site. We give you a written schedule once selections are final.
Can we live at home during the remodel?
Most families do. We seal off the work area with plastic and floor protection and help you set up a temporary kitchen with a microwave, refrigerator and a utility sink if possible. Dust and noise are unavoidable during demolition, but we keep the rest of the house usable.
Do I need a permit for a kitchen remodel in Houston?
Replacing cabinets and counters in place generally does not require a permit, but new electrical circuits, relocated plumbing, gas line changes and structural work usually do. Requirements vary by city across Greater Houston, so we confirm what applies to your address before work begins.
Should I remove my soffits?
If the soffits are empty, removing them lets cabinets go to the ceiling and adds a lot of storage. If they hide ductwork or plumbing, the cost goes up because those must be rerouted. We open an inspection hole during planning so you can decide with real information.
What countertop works best with custom cabinets?
Quartz is the most popular choice because it is low-maintenance and consistent. Granite suits homeowners who like natural variation. Solid surface works well for seamless integrated sinks. We help you weigh durability, heat tolerance and budget, and we level cabinets precisely so any material sits flat.
