Bathroom Remodels in Houston, TX

Bathroom remodels built on proper waterproofing, custom vanities from our own shop, and careful tile and trim work.

A bathroom remodel is a small room with a lot going on behind the walls. Drains, supply lines, venting, waterproofing and electrical all have to be right before the tile and cabinetry go in. Ace Kustoms handles bathroom remodels with the same approach we use for cabinetry: measure carefully, plan the details, build the custom pieces in our Houston shop, and install with our own crew.

Common requests in Greater Houston include replacing a dated garden tub with a walk-in shower, swapping a builder-grade vanity for a custom double vanity, and adding storage in hall baths that never had enough. In older homes, we often find original cast iron drains, ungrounded outlets and no exhaust fan at all. We open the walls, fix what needs fixing, and build the new bathroom on a sound base.

Our bathroom remodel scope usually includes custom bathroom vanities, tile floors and showers, linen storage, trim and doors. Plumbing and electrical changes are handled by licensed trades and coordinated by our team. For bath work that is part of a larger kitchen project, see our kitchen and bath remodel service. A free in-home estimate is the best way to start, since we can look at the plumbing, measure the room and talk through what you want to change before anything is priced.

Why choose Ace Kustoms for bathroom remodels

Waterproofing done right

Shower walls and pans get a continuous waterproofing membrane over cement board or foam board, with sealed seams, niches and valve penetrations. A flood test before tile confirms the pan holds water, which is where many failed showers go wrong.

Custom vanity and storage

Your vanity, linen tower and any recessed cabinets are built in our shop from plywood and solid hardwood, sized to the room and sealed on all sides for moisture, not pulled off a store shelf in the closest width.

Careful tile layout

We plan tile layout before setting the first piece, centering patterns on the main view, avoiding thin slivers at corners, and sloping shower floors correctly to the drain. Large-format tile gets a leveling system for flat, lippage-free surfaces.

Better ventilation and lighting

We recommend a properly sized exhaust fan vented outdoors, and we coordinate vanity sconces, shower lighting and GFCI protection. Good ventilation protects the finishes and keeps mold from taking hold in Houston humidity.

One in-house team

Demolition, carpentry, cabinetry, tile and trim are handled by our own crew, with licensed plumbers and electricians where required. You have one schedule and one point of contact from start to finish.

Accessible options

Curbless showers, blocking for future grab bars, comfort-height vanities and wider doorways can be built in now, even if you do not need them yet, so the bathroom works for the long term.

Styles, materials and options

Tub-to-shower conversion

Replacing an unused garden tub or alcove tub with a walk-in shower is one of our most common bathroom remodels. A typical alcove conversion fits a 60-by-32-inch shower with a low curb or linear drain.

Walk-in tile shower

Custom tile showers can include a bench, recessed niches, a handheld wand on a slide bar and frameless glass. We build the pan with a proper slope of about 1/4 inch per foot to the drain.

Freestanding tub

A freestanding soaking tub needs floor support, a floor-mounted or wall filler, and enough clearance to clean around it. We confirm drain location in the slab before you fall in love with a specific spot.

Primary bath remodel

Full primary bath remodels often combine a larger shower, double vanity, separate water closet, linen storage and new lighting. Layout changes here can involve slab plumbing work, which we plan for upfront.

Hall and kids baths

Hall baths benefit from durable tile, a tub that works for bathing children, a double vanity if space allows and plenty of towel storage. We often keep the tub location to control cost while improving everything around it.

Powder room refresh

Powder rooms are small enough to try bolder finishes like a walnut floating vanity, wainscoting, a statement tile floor or wallpaper. These projects are usually quick and do not affect bathing routines.

Our process

  1. Consultation and inspection. We measure the bathroom, look at plumbing and electrical, check for soft subfloors or past leaks, and discuss how the room is used. We note what can stay and what needs to change.
  2. Design and selections. You choose vanity style, tile, fixtures, glass and lighting with real samples. We draw the layout, confirm drain and valve positions, and set the order of work so materials arrive on time.
  3. Demolition and rough-in. We protect the house, demolish down to studs where needed, and complete plumbing and electrical rough-in. Walls are checked for plumb and flat so tile and cabinets go up straight.
  4. Waterproofing, tile and cabinetry. We install backer board and waterproofing, flood-test the shower pan, then set tile. The vanity and storage built in our shop are installed, followed by tops, fixtures, glass and trim.
  5. Final walkthrough. We test every fixture for leaks and proper drainage, adjust doors and drawers, caulk and clean, and walk the bathroom with you. Any punch list items are written down and finished.

What affects the cost

  • Moving drains or the toilet on a slab foundation adds significant cost compared with keeping fixtures in place.
  • Shower size, tile choice and features like benches, niches and frameless glass affect labor and material.
  • The size and finish of the custom vanity and any added storage pieces set the cabinetry cost.
  • Hidden damage such as rotted framing, failed pans or old cast iron drains may need repair once walls open.
  • Fixture selection ranges widely, from standard valves and toilets to thermostatic systems and freestanding tubs.

As a general planning range, a hall bath remodel in Greater Houston often runs about $15,000 to $35,000, while a primary bathroom remodel with a custom double vanity and walk-in tile shower commonly falls between $30,000 and $75,000 or more. Every bathroom is different, so treat these as rough planning numbers and get a written estimate.

Built for Houston conditions

Houston bathrooms fight humidity year-round, so waterproofing and ventilation get extra attention on our jobs. We use full membrane systems in showers rather than relying on grout or paint, and we size exhaust fans to the room and duct them outdoors, not into the attic. Slab foundations mean drains run through concrete, so changing the layout requires cutting the slab, which we plan and price clearly. Older homes from the 1950s to 1970s often have cast iron drain lines that can be corroded inside, and a camera inspection before tile goes in can prevent tearing out a new floor later. Flood-prone areas may also benefit from moisture-tolerant materials low on the walls.

Bathroom Remodels FAQs

How long does a bathroom remodel take?
A hall bath remodel without layout changes usually takes two to four weeks on site. A primary bath with a new shower, custom double vanity and slab plumbing changes can take four to seven weeks. Custom vanity building happens before demolition so cabinetry is ready when the room is.
Can you convert my tub into a walk-in shower?
Yes, it is one of our most common projects. We remove the tub, adjust the drain and valve, build a waterproofed pan and walls, and tile the shower. Keeping one tub somewhere in the house is worth considering for resale if you have young children or plan to sell.
What waterproofing do you use in showers?
We install a continuous waterproofing membrane system over backer board or foam panels, with pre-formed corners, sealed seams and sealed penetrations. Shower pans are flood-tested before tile. This approach keeps water out of framing even if grout develops hairline cracks over time.
Do I need a permit for a bathroom remodel?
Cosmetic updates often do not, but moving plumbing, adding circuits, or changing structure generally does. Requirements differ among cities in the Houston area, so we check what applies to your address and coordinate permits and inspections when they are needed.
Can I use my bathroom during the remodel?
Usually not for most of the project, since water and fixtures are disconnected during demolition, rough-in and tile curing. If it is your only bathroom, we discuss sequencing to keep a toilet working as long as possible and reduce the downtime.
How do I schedule an estimate?
Call (281) 660-3903 during business hours, Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm, or use our contact form. We will set a time to visit, measure the bathroom, look at existing plumbing and give you a written estimate based on what you want to change.
