Custom Butler's Pantry Cabinets in Houston, TX

A staging and storage room between kitchen and dining, with counters, cabinets and appliances laid out for how you actually entertain.

Custom butler's pantry cabinets turn the passage between kitchen and dining room into a working space. Traditionally it is where serving dishes waited and silver was kept. Today it usually holds the overflow the main kitchen cannot: platters, stemware, small appliances, a coffee station, a wine fridge and sometimes a prep sink. Ace Kustoms designs and builds these rooms in our Houston shop and installs them with our own crew.

A butler's pantry is often narrow, sometimes only 5 or 6 feet wide, so the layout has to be precise. We keep at least 36 to 42 inches of clear walkway, use shallower 12 to 15 inch upper cabinets where space is tight, and lean on deep drawers instead of doors so nothing is lost at the back of a base cabinet.

Many homeowners add a butler's pantry during a larger kitchen remodel, carving it out of an old laundry closet or part of a formal dining room. Others finish an empty builder pantry. Either way, we match door style and finish to the kitchen or deliberately contrast it, with stained walnut or a deep painted color that reads as a separate room.

Why choose Ace Kustoms for custom butler's pantry cabinets

Clutter off the main counters

Toasters, mixers, espresso machines and air fryers live in the pantry on dedicated outlets. The main kitchen keeps clear counters for cooking while appliances stay plugged in and ready a few steps away.

Staging for hosting

A serving counter between kitchen and dining gives you a place to plate food, set out drinks and stack dirty dishes out of guests' sight. It keeps holiday gatherings from piling up around the stove.

Proper home for fine dishes

Glass-front uppers, plate racks and felt-lined drawers protect china, crystal and silver. Items you use a few times a year are stored safely without taking prime kitchen cabinet space. Felt-lined dividers keep flatware from scratching.

Room for a second sink or fridge

A bar sink, undercounter beverage fridge, ice maker or wine cooler fits within standard 15 and 24-inch cabinet widths. We plan the openings, ventilation and trim kits to the appliance specs before building.

Drawers that hold more

Full-extension drawers with 100-pound slides store heavy platters, linens and small appliances better than doors and shelves. You see everything from above, and nothing gets lost at the back. Drawer boxes are dovetailed or doweled hardwood.

A finished, intentional room

Built-in cabinetry with crown, lighting and a real countertop turns a pass-through into a room people notice. It also helps define the transition between the kitchen and a more formal dining space.

Styles, materials and options

Single-wall pass-through

One run of base and upper cabinets along a hallway wall, typically 6 to 10 feet long. Bases can drop to 18 or 21 inches deep if the walkway is tight.

Galley butler's pantry

Cabinets on both sides of a corridor, often with full-height pantry storage on one wall and a serving counter with glass uppers on the other. Needs roughly 7 feet of width to work well.

Glass uppers and plate racks

Clear, seeded or reeded glass doors with interior lighting, open plate racks and stemware rails. Good for displaying china and keeping crystal dust-free between uses. Interior LED strips run on a door switch or a dimmer, so the display can glow during dinner.

Beverage and coffee station

A pull-out tray for the espresso machine, a drawer for pods and filters, an undercounter fridge for milk and water, and a small sink. Often placed nearest the breakfast table.

Wine storage

Diamond bins, cubbies or individual bottle racks in solid hardwood, combined with a dual-zone wine cooler. Bottles are kept away from exterior walls and hot afternoon sun. Racks are sized for standard 750 ml bottles, with a few wider slots for magnums.

Contrasting finish or matching kitchen

Match the kitchen's door style for a seamless look, or choose stained walnut, white oak or a deep painted color to make the pantry feel like its own room. Hardware can change too, such as brass in the pantry and nickel in the kitchen.

Our process

  1. Measure and inventory. We measure the space and talk through what will live there: appliances, dishes, linens, bottles. We also locate plumbing, electrical and vents that affect where a sink or fridge can go.
  2. Layout and appliance specs. We draw the cabinet layout using the actual specs of your beverage fridge, ice maker or coffee machine, including ventilation clearance, door swing and required trim openings.
  3. Finish and material selection. You choose door style, wood or paint, glass type, hardware and countertop with real samples. We review how the finish will look beside the adjoining kitchen and dining room.
  4. Shop build. We build plywood boxes, hardwood face frames and doors, dovetail or doweled drawer boxes and any wine racks in our Houston shop, then finish everything before delivery.
  5. Install and coordinate trades. Our crew installs and scribes the cabinets, then coordinates countertop templating, plumbing and electrical connections. A final walkthrough checks every door, drawer and appliance fit.

What affects the cost

  • Cabinet length and whether uppers run to the ceiling are the main drivers of cost.
  • Glass doors, interior lighting and plate racks add material and labor compared with solid doors.
  • Adding a sink, ice maker or beverage fridge brings plumbing, electrical and appliance costs.
  • Countertop material, such as quartz, natural stone or solid wood, can vary the total significantly.
  • Converting a closet or reworking walls to create the pantry adds framing, drywall and trim work.

As a general planning range, a single-wall butler's pantry often falls around $8,000 to $18,000 in Greater Houston, and a galley pantry with glass uppers, a sink and appliances can run $20,000 to $40,000 or more including countertops. Appliances, plumbing and electrical vary widely. Use these as rough planning figures and get a written estimate after an in-home measure.

Built for Houston conditions

Many Houston butler's pantries are carved out of older laundry rooms or closets on slab foundations, which makes moving drain lines for a new sink expensive. We often place the sink where existing plumbing already runs. Undercounter fridges and ice makers need front ventilation and dislike heat, so we keep them away from exterior west walls that bake in summer afternoons. Glass doors and stemware need dust and humidity control, so we seal cabinet interiors well. Wine stored in a butler's pantry should be in a cooler rather than open racks, since Houston interiors can swing warm when the AC is set back.

Custom Butler's Pantry Cabinets FAQs

How much space do I need for a butler's pantry?
A single run of cabinets can work in a passage as narrow as 5 feet if bases are kept shallow, leaving a 36-inch walkway. A galley with cabinets on both sides needs about 7 to 8 feet of width. We measure your space and show you what fits before you decide.
Can I put a sink in a butler's pantry?
Yes. A bar or prep sink is common, usually 15 to 18 inches wide. The main question is drain access. On a slab foundation, placing the sink near existing plumbing keeps costs reasonable. We coordinate with your plumber during planning to confirm the drain and vent route.
Should my butler's pantry match the kitchen?
It can go either way. Matching makes the two spaces read as one, which helps in open plans. Contrasting with stained wood or a darker paint color makes the pantry feel like a separate room. We bring samples so you can see both options against your kitchen.
Will a beverage fridge fit in standard cabinetry?
Most undercounter fridges and wine coolers are designed for 15 or 24-inch openings at standard counter height. We build to the manufacturer's exact cutout dimensions and keep the front grille clear, since front-venting units need that airflow to run efficiently.
What is the difference between a butler's pantry and a walk-in pantry?
A walk-in pantry is mainly for food storage, usually with open shelving. A butler's pantry is a working space with counters, cabinetry and often appliances, used for serving and staging. Some homes combine them, with food shelving on one wall and a serving counter on the other.
Do you install the countertops too?
We coordinate countertops as part of the project. After the cabinets are installed, the countertop is templated to the actual cabinets so the fit is exact. Solid wood tops can be built in our shop, and stone or quartz tops are coordinated through our countertop work.
