Custom Kitchen Cabinets in Houston, TX

Kitchen cabinets drawn for your room, built in our Houston shop and installed by the crew that built them.

Custom kitchen cabinets are built to the room you actually have, not to a 3-inch catalog increment. At Ace Kustoms we measure your walls, ceilings and appliance openings, draw the layout, and build every box in our Houston shop from furniture-grade plywood with solid hardwood face frames and doors. The same crew that builds the cabinets installs them, so the person scribing the filler strip against your out-of-plumb wall knows exactly how the box was made.

Most kitchens we see in Greater Houston fall into two camps. Older 1950s-70s ranch homes have short soffits, odd window placements and walls that wander a half inch over ten feet. Newer builder-grade homes have the square footage but came with particleboard boxes, 30-inch uppers and stapled drawers that are already sagging. Custom work solves both: we can run uppers to the ceiling, add a true pantry pull-out, and size a range hood cabinet to the exact appliance spec sheet.

If you are also moving plumbing, changing the floor plan or replacing counters, our kitchen remodel service covers the full scope. If you only want new cabinetry, we can work around existing flooring and coordinate with your countertop fabricator. Either way, start with a free in-home estimate and see real door samples on site. You can also browse finished work in our project gallery.

Why choose Ace Kustoms for custom kitchen cabinets

Boxes that do not swell

We build cabinet boxes from 3/4-inch furniture-grade plywood instead of particleboard. Plywood holds screws, resists the sag you see under heavy sink bases, and tolerates the occasional dishwasher leak far better than pressed board with a vinyl skin.

Sized to the inch

Catalog lines come in 3-inch steps, so leftover space gets covered with fillers. We build to your measurements, which means a 31-1/2-inch drawer base where you need it and uppers that meet a 9-foot ceiling without a gap or a fake soffit.

Solid hardwood faces

Doors, drawer fronts and face frames are solid maple, oak, walnut or another hardwood you choose. Painted doors use paint-grade maple, which takes finish smoothly and holds edges better than MDF in a busy kitchen that sees daily wiping.

Drawers built for weight

Drawer boxes use dovetail or doweled hardwood construction on full-extension, soft-close undermount slides rated for heavy loads. Deep pot drawers, a 36-inch-wide drawer bank, and knife or spice inserts are all built into the plan rather than added later.

One crew from shop to install

Nobody hands your job to a subcontractor. The team that measures and builds is the team that levels the boxes on your slab, scribes to the walls and adjusts every hinge, which keeps reveals tight and accountability simple.

Warranty on joinery and finish

Our craftsmanship warranty covers the joinery and the finish we apply. If a joint opens or the finish fails under normal use, we come back and make it right, because we built it and we know where every piece came from.

Styles, materials and options

Shaker and flat-panel doors

Five-piece Shaker doors with a 2-1/4-inch rail remain the most requested style in Houston. Slab and flat-panel doors in rift-cut white oak or walnut give a clean modern look, and either style can be painted, stained or clear-coated.

Face-frame or frameless

Traditional face-frame cabinets have a hardwood frame that stiffens the box and suits inset or partial-overlay doors. Frameless European-style boxes give slightly more interior width and full-overlay doors with tight 1/8-inch reveals for a contemporary kitchen.

Inset doors

Inset doors sit flush inside the face frame and show a fine, even gap all around. They take more fitting time and pair well with exposed barrel or butt hinges, and they suit older Heights and Montrose-style homes with period character.

Stained hardwoods

Natural maple, white oak, quarter-sawn oak, cherry and walnut can be stained or left with a clear catalyzed finish. We show real finished samples in your kitchen light, because a stain chip in a showroom rarely looks the same at home.

Two-tone kitchens

A common request is painted perimeter cabinets with a stained or contrasting island, or wood uppers over painted lowers. We finish both tones in the shop so colors and sheen are controlled rather than mixed on site.

Interior organization

Options include roll-out trays, tray dividers over the oven, blind-corner pull-outs, trash and recycling pull-outs, appliance garages with outlets, and pantry cabinets with adjustable shelves. Each is sized to your items, not a generic insert.

Our process

  1. Consultation and measure. We visit your home, talk through how you cook and store things, and take full measurements including ceiling height, window and outlet locations, plumbing stub-outs and appliance model numbers so the plan fits on the first try.
  2. Layout and samples. You review a drawn layout with elevations and choose wood species, door style, finish and hardware from real samples. We confirm appliance clearances, filler widths and countertop overhangs before anything is cut.
  3. Shop fabrication. Boxes, face frames, doors and drawers are built and finished in our Houston shop. Finishing indoors keeps dust and humidity under control and gives a harder, more even coat than spraying in an occupied home.
  4. Installation. Our crew removes old cabinets if needed, shims bases level on the slab, fastens boxes to studs, scribes fillers and panels to the walls, and sets doors, drawers and hardware. Countertop templating follows once the boxes are locked in.
  5. Final walkthrough. We walk the kitchen with you, adjust every hinge and slide, touch up any marks, and explain care for the finish. Anything that needs attention goes on a written punch list we close out.

What affects the cost

  • Linear footage and the number of boxes, especially tall pantry and oven cabinets, drive the base cost more than anything else.
  • Wood species and finish matter, with paint-grade maple usually costing less than walnut or rift-sawn white oak.
  • Inset doors and complex door profiles take more fitting time than full-overlay Shaker or slab doors.
  • Interior accessories such as pull-outs, drawer inserts and lift-up hardware add cost per unit.
  • Site conditions like out-of-level slabs, soffit removal or running cabinets to a 10-foot ceiling add labor.

As a general planning range, custom kitchen cabinets in Greater Houston often run about $500 to $1,200 per linear foot installed, so a typical 25 to 35 linear-foot kitchen may land between roughly $15,000 and $40,000. Your number depends on size, materials and site conditions, so treat this only as a starting point and get a written estimate after our in-home measure.

Built for Houston conditions

Houston humidity is the main enemy of kitchen cabinetry. Particleboard boxes absorb moisture at the sink base and swell, while solid wood doors move with the seasons, so we use plywood boxes and five-piece doors that allow panels to float. Most local homes sit on slab foundations, and older slabs in 1960s neighborhoods often have a slight crown or dip, which we shim out so countertops sit flat. We leave proper ventilation gaps around dishwashers and refrigerators, and we finish all sides of sink bases. For coastal areas toward Galveston and League City, we recommend stainless or quality plated hinges and slides, since salt air can pit cheaper hardware within a few years.

Custom Kitchen Cabinets FAQs

How long do custom kitchen cabinets take?
From signed design to installation, most kitchens take roughly six to ten weeks, depending on size, finish and our shop schedule. Shop building and finishing is the longest stretch. Installation itself usually takes three to seven working days, and countertop templating can happen as soon as the boxes are set and secured.
Are custom cabinets worth it over semi-custom?
They are when your room has odd dimensions, tall ceilings or specific storage needs, or when you want plywood boxes and solid wood doors throughout. Semi-custom lines can work in a square room with standard heights. We are happy to tell you honestly whether custom makes sense for your kitchen during the estimate.
Can you match my existing cabinets?
Often, yes. We can build new boxes and doors to match an existing profile and finish, for example adding an island or pantry wall. Exact color matching on aged finishes takes sample work, so we make test panels and compare them in your kitchen light before building the full order.
Do you install cabinets on a slab that is not level?
Yes, nearly every Houston slab needs some correction. We find the high point, set a level line, and shim each base cabinet to that line. Toe-kicks are then scribed to the floor so gaps do not show, giving your countertop installer a flat, true surface.
What hardware do you use?
We typically use soft-close concealed hinges and full-extension soft-close undermount drawer slides from established European hardware makers. Knobs and pulls are your choice, and we can source them or install hardware you buy. We drill using templates so every pull lines up across the kitchen.
Can I keep my countertops?
Sometimes. If your countertops are in good shape and the new cabinets match the existing footprint and height, stone tops can occasionally be lifted and reset, though there is a risk of cracking. We will look at the stone and tell you the realistic odds before you decide. Call (281) 660-3903 to set up a visit.
