Custom Closet Solutions in Houston, TX

Walk-in and reach-in closets built from real wood, laid out around your wardrobe and installed by our own crew.

Most closets in Houston homes come with a single wire shelf and a rod, which wastes half the wall height and leaves shoes on the floor. Custom closet solutions replace that with a layout built around what you own: double hanging for shirts, long hanging for dresses and coats, drawers for folded items, and a shoe wall that keeps pairs visible. Ace Kustoms builds closet systems in our Houston shop from furniture-grade plywood and solid hardwood.

We start by looking at your wardrobe, not a catalog. How many linear feet of hanging do you need? Do you fold or hang sweaters? How many pairs of shoes and boots? A standard double-hang section needs about 84 inches of height and 24 inches of depth, while drawer stacks can run 18 to 22 inches deep. With those numbers, we design a closet that fits your belongings and your room.

Our closet work ranges from reach-in bedroom closets to full walk-in closets with islands and lighting. For a closet island specifically, see our closet island built-ins. For general household storage, our custom storage solutions page covers pantries, linen closets and garages. A free in-home estimate lets us measure the space and take stock of what needs to go inside. Bring any ideas you have.

Why choose Ace Kustoms for custom closet solutions

Real wood, not wire or particleboard

Closet systems from big-box stores often use thin melamine particleboard or wire shelving that sags. Ours use furniture-grade plywood and solid hardwood, so shelves stay flat under folded jeans and drawers hold up to daily use.

Uses full wall height

We run storage from floor to ceiling, adding upper cabinets or shelves for luggage and off-season items. In closets with 9 or 10-foot ceilings, that can nearly double the usable storage compared with a single rod and shelf.

Drawers built in

Built-in drawer stacks replace or reduce the need for a dresser in the bedroom. We use full-extension soft-close slides, and can add dividers for socks, jewelry, belts and ties so small items stay sorted and easy to find.

Shoe storage that works

Angled or flat shoe shelves with a lip, spaced 7 to 9 inches apart for flats and sneakers and taller for boots, keep shoes visible and off the floor. A shoe wall is one of the most requested closet features we build.

Lighting and finish details

LED strip lighting in hanging sections or under shelves, a lit display cabinet, and trimmed-out crown molding make a closet feel finished. Painted or stained finishes match the bedroom or primary bath for a cohesive look.

Installed by the builders

The same crew that builds your closet installs it, anchoring every section to studs and scribing to walls. Installation takes one to three days for most closets, and nothing is left for you to assemble.

Styles, materials and options

Reach-in closets

Reach-in closets benefit from double hanging on one side, a drawer stack or shelves in the center, and a full-width upper shelf. Replacing bifold doors with full-width hinged doors improves access to the corners.

Walk-in closets

Walk-ins allow hanging and shelving on two or three walls with a center aisle of at least 36 inches, or 48 inches if you want to open drawers comfortably. U-shaped and L-shaped layouts are most common.

Closet islands

Larger walk-ins can fit an island with drawers and a top surface for folding or packing. An island needs at least 36 to 42 inches of clearance on each side to allow access to drawers and hanging areas.

Shared his-and-hers closets

Shared closets can be divided by wall or zone, with different heights of hanging, drawer layouts and shoe storage tailored to each person. We can mirror the layout or design each side differently.

Glass doors and display

Glass-front doors on upper cabinets or a display section for handbags and watches add a boutique feel. Integrated LED lighting shows contents and helps you find things in an otherwise dim closet.

Accessories

Valet rods, pull-out belt and tie racks, hampers, ironing board pull-outs, jewelry drawers with velvet liners and mirrors mounted on door backs can all be built in where they make the most sense.

Our process

  1. Measure and wardrobe review. We measure the closet, note windows, vents, lighting and attic access, and look at your clothing and shoes. We estimate linear feet of hanging and number of drawers you need.
  2. Design and samples. You review a layout with elevations and choose finishes, hardware, lighting and accessories with real samples. We confirm clearances for doors, drawers and walkways. Nothing is cut until you approve.
  3. Shop fabrication. We build and finish all closet sections in our Houston shop, including drawers, shoe shelves and doors, and fit accessories before they leave the shop.
  4. Installation. Our crew removes old shelving, patches walls if needed, then installs and levels each section, anchors to studs, adds trim and lighting, and adjusts every drawer and door.
  5. Walkthrough. We walk the finished closet with you, check every component, explain care and adjustment, and handle any small changes before we close out the project.

What affects the cost

  • The size of the closet and total linear footage of storage set the base cost.
  • Drawers, doors and islands cost more than open shelving and hanging sections.
  • Wood species and finish affect price, with stained hardwoods typically costing more than painted maple.
  • Integrated lighting, glass doors and specialty accessories add material and labor.
  • Removing old shelving, patching walls and adding electrical for lighting add site work.

As a general planning range, a custom reach-in closet in Greater Houston often runs about $1,500 to $4,000, while a walk-in closet with drawers and shoe storage commonly falls between $6,000 and $18,000, and larger closets with islands can go higher. Costs depend on size, materials and site conditions, so please get a written estimate.

Built for Houston conditions

Closets in Houston homes can trap humid air, especially interior walk-ins without a supply vent or return, which leads to musty clothes and mildew on leather. We recommend making sure the closet has airflow, and we can build vented panels or leave open spaces in the design to help. Plywood construction resists warping better than particleboard in damp conditions. Closets on exterior walls in older homes may have little insulation, so we leave an air gap behind cabinets. Many homes have attic access through the closet ceiling, and we plan around that hatch so it stays usable, since attic AC equipment in Houston homes needs regular service.

Custom Closet Solutions FAQs

How much hanging space do I need?
Most adults need 5 to 10 linear feet of hanging, split between double hanging for shirts and pants and single long hanging for dresses and coats. We measure your current wardrobe during the estimate to get a realistic number and leave some room to grow.
How deep should closet shelves and drawers be?
Hanging sections need about 24 inches of depth so hangers clear the back wall and door. Shelves for folded clothes work well at 14 to 16 inches, and drawer stacks are typically 18 to 22 inches deep depending on the room.
Can you build a closet system in a reach-in closet?
Yes. Reach-in closets often benefit the most from custom work, because a few well-placed shelves, a drawer stack and double hanging can double the usable space. Replacing bifold doors with hinged doors also improves access to corners. We also add lighting where the closet is dark.
Do custom closets include lighting?
They can. LED strip lights in hanging sections, under shelves or inside display cabinets can be wired to a switch, motion sensor or door switch. Any new electrical work is done by a licensed electrician and planned before fabrication. Lighting makes dark colors easier to tell apart.
How long does a custom closet take?
Most closets take three to six weeks from approved design to installation, depending on size and finish. Installation usually takes one to three days. We remove old shelving and leave the closet clean and ready to use. Most homeowners are using the closet the same day.
How do I schedule an estimate?
Call (281) 660-3903 or use our contact form to book a free in-home estimate. Before we arrive, it helps to think about what you want to store and what is not working in your current closet. We measure the space and follow up with a written estimate.
