Custom Laundry Room Cabinets in Houston, TX

Sealed cabinets, a folding counter and a home for every bottle, hamper and ironing board, built around your machines and plumbing.

Custom laundry room cabinets turn a cramped room with one wire shelf into a space where laundry actually gets done. Most Houston laundry rooms are small, often 5 by 8 feet or less, and they have to hold two machines, detergent, cleaning supplies, a drying rack and an ironing board. Ace Kustoms designs cabinets around your machines and plumbing, builds them in our Houston shop and installs them with our own crew.

Laundry rooms are hard on cabinets. Washers leak, dryers put out heat and lint, and humidity runs high. We build boxes from furniture-grade plywood, not particleboard, and seal every face and edge, including the sink base floor where drips land. Shelves are adjustable on pins so you can fit tall detergent jugs and still use the space above them. Hardware is chosen to resist corrosion.

If your laundry room is also the main entry from the garage, our page on laundry and mudroom combos covers adding lockers and a bench. This page focuses on the laundry work itself: folding surfaces, sorting, hanging, ironing and storage that keeps chemicals off the floor and away from kids and pets. Everything is sized to the actual products you buy, from jug heights to hamper bins.

Why choose Ace Kustoms for custom laundry room cabinets

Folding counter over front-loaders

A countertop installed above side-by-side front-load machines gives you a full-width folding surface where there was dead space. We leave clearance for vibration and set the height so the counter is easy to use.

Supplies off the floor

Upper cabinets and pull-outs hold detergent, stain removers, dryer sheets and cleaning supplies. Child locks or high storage keep pods and chemicals away from small children and pets. Pull-outs put everything in view.

Moisture-resistant construction

Sealed plywood boxes, finished interiors and a waterproof liner or sealed floor in the sink base protect against drips and leaks. Particleboard cabinets swell quickly when exposed to water in a laundry room.

Hanging and drying built in

A rod under the upper cabinets for hanging shirts straight from the dryer, plus a fold-down or pull-out drying rack for delicates. Clothes stay wrinkle-free and air-dried items have a dedicated place.

Sorting without the clutter

Pull-out or tilt-out hampers for darks, lights and towels keep dirty laundry sorted and hidden. Bins lift out for carrying to the machines, so piles stop gathering on the floor.

Ironing and sewing storage

A pull-out ironing board in a drawer, a fold-down board in a wall cabinet or a tall cabinet for a full-size board. Irons, starch and a small sewing kit get their own shelf.

Styles, materials and options

Side-by-side machines with counter

Front-load washer and dryer under a continuous countertop with upper cabinets above and a narrow pull-out between machines for detergent. A common layout that makes the most of a single wall.

Stacked machines with tall cabinet

A stacked washer and dryer beside a tall cabinet for brooms, the vacuum and an ironing board. Frees up wall space for a sink or folding counter in narrow rooms.

Laundry sink base

A deep single-bowl utility sink or an undermount sink in a counter, set in a sealed base cabinet with a waterproof floor liner. Handy for hand-washing, soaking stains and rinsing muddy items.

Hamper and sorting pull-outs

Double or triple pull-out hampers with removable bins, or tilt-out hamper doors. Sized for standard laundry bins and placed next to the washer for easy loading. Bins lift out so you can carry them to the machine.

Open shelving and cubbies

Open shelves for baskets and folded towels, or cubbies for each family member's clean laundry. Painted or stained hardwood shelves add warmth to a mostly white utility room. Baskets can be labeled.

Finishes and countertops

Painted finishes in white, gray, green or blue with laminate, quartz or solid surface counters. Butcher block looks warm but needs sealing and care near the sink and machines. We bring samples of each.

Our process

  1. Measure machines and utilities. We measure the room and your washer and dryer, then locate water supply, drain, dryer vent, gas line if any and outlets. These set where cabinets can and cannot go.
  2. Plan the work flow. You review a layout that follows the laundry process: sort, wash, dry, fold, hang and put away. We place hampers, counters and rods in the order you use them.
  3. Select finishes and counters. You choose cabinet color, hardware and countertop from real samples. We recommend moisture-resistant options for areas near the sink and machines. We also look at how each sample handles water spots and detergent drips.
  4. Build and seal in our shop. We build plywood cabinets in our Houston shop, sealing every surface and lining the sink base, then finish them before delivery so they are ready for daily use.
  5. Install and test clearances. The crew installs cabinets and counter supports, checks clearance around machines, vents and valves, and confirms the washer and dryer can be pulled out for service.

What affects the cost

  • The amount of wall covered with cabinetry and whether uppers reach the ceiling set the base cost.
  • Adding a sink base, plumbing and faucet increases cost, especially on slab foundations.
  • Countertop material, from laminate to quartz, makes a noticeable difference.
  • Specialty pull-outs like hampers, ironing boards and drying racks add hardware costs.
  • Relocating machines, rerouting a dryer vent or adding outlets brings additional trades.

For general planning, laundry room cabinets with uppers and a folding counter in Greater Houston often run around $4,000 to $9,000, while larger rooms with a sink, tall storage and specialty pull-outs can range from $10,000 to $20,000 or more. These figures vary with size, materials and site conditions, so ask for a written estimate after we measure.

Built for Houston conditions

Houston laundry rooms combine high outdoor humidity with washer moisture and dryer heat, which is hard on cabinets. Sealed plywood construction and moisture-resistant finishes are important. Dryer vents should run the shortest path to the outside, and we never block or crush them behind cabinets. On slab foundations, moving machines or adding a sink means trenching concrete, so we work with existing plumbing whenever possible. A washer pan with a drain, or at least a leak sensor, is a good idea for upstairs laundry rooms common in newer two-story homes.

Custom Laundry Room Cabinets FAQs

Can you put a countertop over my washer and dryer?
Yes, with front-load machines. We install a counter supported by cleats or side panels, not resting on the machines, with clearance for vibration and to slide the machines out for service. The height is set so you can open the doors and still fold comfortably.
Will wood cabinets hold up in a laundry room?
Plywood cabinets with sealed edges and finishes hold up well. The problem is usually particleboard, which swells quickly when wet. We seal every surface, line sink bases and keep cabinets off wet floors where possible. Hardware and finishes are also chosen to tolerate humidity and occasional splashes.
How high should cabinets be above the machines?
Upper cabinets typically sit 18 to 24 inches above the top of front-load machines or a counter. For top-load washers, we leave enough clearance for the lid to open fully. We check your machine's specifications before setting heights. Taller households sometimes prefer the lower end of that range.
Can you add a sink to my laundry room?
Often yes. The washer supply and drain can sometimes serve a nearby sink. On slab foundations, a sink far from existing plumbing may require cutting concrete. We coordinate with your plumber to plan the most practical location. A sink near the washer is usually simplest.
What about an upstairs laundry room?
Upstairs laundry rooms, common in newer Houston homes, benefit from a washer drain pan, leak sensors and sealed cabinetry. We plan cabinets so the pan and shut-off valves remain accessible and do not get covered by panels or counters. Access panels can be built in.
Can I keep my existing machines?
Yes. We measure your current washer and dryer and design openings with some extra space for future replacements. If you plan to buy new machines soon, choosing them first lets us build the cabinets to their exact dimensions. Many new machines are larger.
