Custom Storage Solutions in Houston, TX

Pantries, linen closets, under-stair cabinets and garage storage built to fit the odd spaces most homes waste.

Custom storage solutions start with a simple question: where does stuff pile up in your house? For most families, the answer is the pantry, the linen closet, the laundry room, the garage and that odd space under the stairs. Ace Kustoms designs and builds custom storage for those spaces in our Houston shop, using furniture-grade plywood and solid hardwood, and installs it with our own crew.

Storage that works is sized to what it holds. A pantry needs shallow shelves for cans so nothing hides at the back, and deeper ones for small appliances. A linen closet benefits from pull-out shelves so stacks of towels do not topple. Under-stair space can hold drawers that roll out on heavy slides rather than a dark triangle you never open. We measure the space and your belongings, then build to both.

This page covers whole-house storage. For clothing, see our custom closet solutions, and for garages specifically, our custom garage cabinets. During a free in-home estimate we walk through the problem spots, measure each area and discuss what needs a home, then suggest where custom storage will make the biggest difference for your household. We can tackle one space at a time or several rooms in one project, whichever suits your budget and schedule.

Why choose Ace Kustoms for custom storage solutions

Uses wasted space

Under-stair areas, knee walls, soffits, the wall above the washer and the gap beside the refrigerator are often wasted. Custom storage fits those odd shapes and sizes, turning dead space into useful, accessible storage.

Sized to what you store

We size shelves, drawers and cabinets to your items: 12-inch shelves for canned goods, 22-inch drawers for pots, deep cubbies for bins. Right-sized storage keeps everything visible and easy to reach.

Pull-outs and drawers

Roll-out shelves and drawers on full-extension slides bring items to you instead of making you dig. They work well in pantries, linen closets and under stairs, where deep fixed shelves hide things at the back.

Built to last

Furniture-grade plywood and solid hardwood hold up to heavy loads and daily use far better than wire racks or particleboard units that sag and swell. Our storage is designed to last as long as the house.

Matches your home

Storage pieces can be painted or stained to match existing cabinetry and trim. In visible areas like a butler's pantry or hall, the storage looks like a planned part of the house, not an add-on.

One crew, start to finish

The same team measures, builds and installs, scribing to uneven walls and floors and anchoring everything securely. You get one point of contact and one schedule, even across multiple rooms.

Styles, materials and options

Walk-in and cabinet pantries

Walk-in pantry shelving with varied depths and pull-out bins, or a wall of tall pantry cabinets with roll-out shelves. We add a small counter for appliances and outlets where it makes sense to keep the kitchen clear.

Linen and hall closets

Linen closets with adjustable shelves, pull-out trays for towels and sheets, and a hamper drawer. Shallow hall cabinets of 12 inches deep can hold cleaning supplies, medicine and paper goods without blocking traffic.

Under-stair storage

Roll-out drawers on heavy-duty slides, angled cabinets that follow the stair line, or an open nook for a desk or pet bed. We check framing and any utilities under the stairs before designing.

Laundry room storage

Upper cabinets over the washer and dryer, a hanging rod for air-drying, a folding counter, and a cabinet for a utility sink. We plan around dryer vents, water valves and appliance doors.

Garage storage

Cabinets and shelving for tools, sports gear and bins, raised off the slab and built to handle heat. Sealed plywood and durable finishes stand up to garage conditions better than particleboard units.

Kids' storage

Cubbies, toy bins, window seats with drawers and low shelving sized for children. We anchor every piece to studs to prevent tipping and use finishes that wipe clean easily. Heights adjust as kids grow.

Our process

  1. Walkthrough and measure. We walk through the areas that need storage, measure each one, note utilities and obstacles, and talk about what you want to store. We prioritize the spaces that will make the biggest difference.
  2. Design and samples. You review drawn layouts and choose finishes, hardware and accessories with real samples. We confirm shelf depths, drawer sizes and clearances for doors and appliances.
  3. Shop fabrication. We build and finish all storage pieces in our Houston shop, fitting slides, pull-outs and hardware before they leave the shop so installation goes smoothly.
  4. Installation. Our crew removes old shelving, patches walls where needed, installs and levels each piece, anchors to studs and scribes to walls and floors. We adjust every drawer and door.
  5. Walkthrough. We walk through every finished space with you, check each component, explain care and weight limits and finish any punch list items before closing out.

What affects the cost

  • The number of spaces and total linear footage of storage set the base scope.
  • Drawers, roll-outs and closed cabinets cost more than fixed open shelving.
  • Odd shapes such as under-stair and knee-wall storage take more design and fitting time.
  • Wood species and finish affect material and labor, especially in visible areas.
  • Removing old shelving, wall repairs and adding outlets or lighting add site work.

As a general planning range, a custom pantry or linen closet in Greater Houston often runs about $2,000 to $7,000, while under-stair storage with roll-out drawers may run $3,000 to $8,000, and whole-house storage projects can go higher depending on scope. These figures vary with size, materials and site conditions, so please get a written estimate.

Built for Houston conditions

Storage spaces in Houston homes are often the least ventilated parts of the house, such as interior pantries, under-stair closets and linen closets, where humid air settles and can make food and fabrics musty. We plan airflow and can add vented doors or louvered panels. Plywood construction resists swelling better than particleboard. Garages in Houston can exceed 100 degrees in summer and may take on water during heavy rain, so we raise garage storage off the slab on legs or a sealed base. Under-stair spaces in two-story homes sometimes hide plumbing or HVAC lines, so we inspect before designing and leave access panels where needed.

Custom Storage Solutions FAQs

What is the best shelf depth for a pantry?
Shallow shelves of 12 inches work best for cans, jars and boxes because nothing gets lost behind other items. Deeper shelves of 16 to 20 inches suit small appliances and bulk items. Roll-out shelves make deep cabinets usable. We combine depths based on what you buy and store.
Can you build storage under my stairs?
Usually, yes. We check the framing and look for plumbing, ducts or wiring, then design roll-out drawers, cabinets or an open nook to follow the stair angle. Roll-outs on heavy-duty slides make the deep, low space at the back easy to reach.
Can you replace wire shelving with wood?
Yes, and it is one of our most common requests. We remove the wire shelving, patch the wall anchor holes, and install solid wood or plywood shelving that will not sag or leave lines on folded towels. Wood shelves also look better and are easier to clean.
Do you build garage storage?
Yes. We build cabinets and shelving designed for garage conditions, raised off the slab and finished to handle heat and humidity. Heavy-duty shelves fit standard storage bins, and closed cabinets protect tools and chemicals. Locking doors are available. Shelving can also be mounted higher on the wall to keep the floor open for vehicles.
How do you keep storage from feeling cramped?
We use shallower depths where possible, drawers instead of deep shelves, and lighting in dark spaces. Keeping walkways at least 36 inches wide in pantries and closets helps. We plan layouts so you can see and reach everything easily. Light-colored finishes also help small spaces feel larger.
How long does a storage project take?
Single-space projects such as a pantry usually take three to five weeks from approved design to installation. Multi-room storage projects take longer, depending on scope. Installation typically takes one to three days per space. Call (281) 660-3903 to book your free in-home estimate.
