Solid Surface Countertops in Houston, TX

Seamless, non-porous solid surface tops with integrated sinks, planned with the cabinetry and installed by our own crew.

Solid surface countertops are made from acrylic or polyester resin blended with mineral fillers, cast into sheets that are the same color and material all the way through. Unlike stone or laminate, solid surface can be joined with color-matched adhesive so seams are nearly invisible, and sinks can be bonded to the top so there is no rim or crevice for grime. Ace Kustoms plans solid surface countertops alongside the cabinetry we build in our Houston shop.

Solid surface is a practical choice for bathrooms, laundry rooms, kids' baths, built-in desks and kitchens where easy cleaning matters more than resistance to very hot pans. Because it is non-porous, it does not need sealing and resists stains from cosmetics, coffee and juice. Light scratches and minor burns can be sanded out, and damaged areas can often be repaired in place rather than replacing the top.

If you are weighing solid surface against quartz, granite or wood, our countertops and surface work page compares the options. Solid surface is a natural fit with our custom bathroom vanities, where a one-piece top with an integrated bowl makes for quick cleanup. A free in-home estimate lets us measure, look at your cabinets and show real samples in your light.

Why choose Ace Kustoms for solid surface countertops

Seamless appearance

Pieces are joined with color-matched adhesive and sanded flush, so long runs and L-shaped tops look like one continuous surface. There are no grout lines or visible dark seams to collect dirt or catch a sponge.

Integrated sinks

Solid surface sinks can be bonded directly to the top, creating a smooth transition from counter to bowl with no rim or caulk line. Integrated sinks are especially popular for vanities, where cleanup is a daily chore.

Non-porous and hygienic

Solid surface does not absorb liquids and never needs sealing. That makes it a good fit for bathrooms, laundry rooms and kitchens where hygiene and easy cleaning are priorities over heat resistance.

Repairable

Fine scratches can be buffed out with a mild abrasive pad, and deeper scratches, chips or minor burns can be sanded and refinished. Many types of damage that would mean replacing stone can be repaired on site.

Coved backsplashes

An integral coved backsplash curves up from the counter without a seam at the wall joint, eliminating the caulk line where water and grime collect. This detail works well in bathrooms, laundry rooms and kitchens.

Warm to the touch

Solid surface feels warmer and softer than stone, which many homeowners prefer in bathrooms. It is also quieter when you set down dishes or bottles, and it comes in a wide range of colors and patterns.

Styles, materials and options

Bathroom vanity tops

One-piece vanity tops with integrated single or double bowls, coved backsplash and side splashes. Overall depth is typically 19 to 22 inches, sized to the custom vanity we build beneath it.

Kitchen countertops

Solid surface kitchen tops with integrated or undermount sinks and seamless L or U-shaped runs. They work best when hot pans go on a trivet, since direct heat from a pan can cause discoloration or cracking.

Laundry and utility tops

Folding counters over front-load washers and dryers and tops with integrated utility sinks. A seamless top in a laundry room is easy to wipe clean and handles detergent spills without staining.

Desk and built-in surfaces

Desktops, window seats and built-in tops for home offices, craft rooms and kids' rooms. Solid surface resists marker and paint stains better than wood, and scratches can be buffed out over time.

Colors and patterns

Solid surface comes in solid whites and neutrals, speckled granite-look patterns and veined designs. Lighter colors hide scratches better than dark ones. We show full-size samples so you can judge color in your room.

Edge profiles

Square, eased, bullnose, ogee and built-up edges can be shaped on site or in the shop. Thicker built-up edges give a more substantial look, and drip edges can be routed for areas near sinks.

Our process

  1. Consultation and samples. We look at the space, talk about how you will use the surface and show color samples and sink options. We confirm faucet and fixture choices so holes and bowls are placed correctly.
  2. Cabinet preparation. Our crew levels and secures the cabinets and adds support at seams, sinks and overhangs. Solid surface needs consistent support, so we set it on a flat, rigid base.
  3. Templating. Templates are taken from the installed cabinets, capturing walls, corners, sink positions and backsplash height. We review seam locations and integrated sink positions with you.
  4. Fabrication and installation. The top is fabricated to the template, seams are joined with color-matched adhesive and sanded flush, sinks are bonded, and the finished surface is polished to the chosen sheen.
  5. Final care review. We check the surface, sinks and seams with you and explain everyday care, how to use trivets, and how to buff out minor scratches so the countertop keeps its finish over time.

What affects the cost

  • Total square footage and the number of pieces and seams set the base cost.
  • Integrated sinks cost more than drop-in sinks but save on cleanup and future caulking.
  • Color and pattern selection affect material price, with premium patterns costing more.
  • Edge profiles, coved backsplashes and built-up edges add fabrication labor.
  • Removing old tops and preparing or repairing cabinets add site work.

As a general planning range, solid surface countertops in Greater Houston often run about $40 to $90 per square foot installed, and a single vanity top with an integrated bowl might land between roughly $800 and $1,800. Final pricing depends on size, materials and site conditions, so please get a written estimate.

Built for Houston conditions

Solid surface handles Houston humidity well because it is non-porous and does not swell, which makes it a sound choice for bathrooms and laundry rooms that stay damp. It does expand slightly with heat, so we leave small expansion gaps at walls and avoid installing it in direct afternoon sun on outdoor patios, where UV and heat can cause fading and movement. Most solid surface products are rated for indoor use only. On slab foundations, we make sure cabinets are fully level and supported, since a sagging cabinet can stress a joint. In older homes with uneven walls, a coved or separate backsplash helps cover gaps and keeps water from getting behind the counter.

Solid Surface Countertops FAQs

Is solid surface better than quartz?
It depends on the room. Quartz is harder and more heat- and scratch-resistant, making it a strong kitchen choice. Solid surface offers seamless joints, integrated sinks and repairability, which suits bathrooms, laundry rooms and kitchens where hygiene and easy cleanup matter most. We compare both with real samples.
Can I put hot pans on solid surface?
It is not recommended. Direct heat from a hot pan can discolor or crack solid surface. Use a trivet or hot pad for pots, pans and appliances like slow cookers. Minor heat marks can sometimes be sanded out, but prevention is better.
How do I clean solid surface countertops?
Everyday cleaning needs only warm water and mild soap or a non-abrasive cleaner. Avoid harsh chemicals like drain cleaners or paint removers on the surface. Light scratches can be buffed with a gentle abrasive pad following the finish type, and we explain the method at installation.
Will the seams be visible?
When properly fabricated, seams are joined with color-matched adhesive and sanded flush, so they are hard to see in solid colors. Patterned products may show slight pattern changes at seams. We plan seam locations away from main sightlines whenever possible.
Can solid surface be repaired?
Yes. Scratches, small chips and minor burns can often be sanded and refinished on site. Larger damage can sometimes be cut out and patched with matching material. This repairability is one of the main advantages over stone and laminate. Ask us about repair options for existing tops.
How long does installation take?
After cabinets are set, templating can happen within days, and fabrication usually takes one to three weeks. Installation typically takes one day, and plumbing is reconnected after the adhesive cures. Call (281) 660-3903 to schedule your free in-home estimate. Weekday visits run 8am to 5pm.
