Custom Garage Cabinets in Houston, TX

Sealed, wall-hung garage cabinets and workbenches built to handle Houston heat, humidity and the occasional inch of water on the slab.

Custom garage cabinets have a harder job than any cabinet inside the house. A Houston garage regularly passes 100 degrees in summer, humidity stays high most of the year, and the slab can see water from rain blowing under the door or a leaking water heater. Ace Kustoms builds garage cabinets for those conditions, using sealed furniture-grade plywood, durable finishes and mounting that keeps the boxes off the floor.

We plan garage storage around the cars first. Most two-car garages leave 18 to 24 inches of usable depth along the side walls once doors are opened, and more along the back wall if the vehicles are not too long. We measure your actual cars, door swings and garage door tracks so cabinets never block a door or get hit by a bumper.

Typical projects combine upper wall cabinets, a workbench with drawers, tall lockers for brooms and sporting gear, and open shelves for bins. For storage needs elsewhere in the house, our custom storage solutions page covers pantries, closets and utility rooms. In the garage, everything we build is designed to be wiped down, hosed off at the base and left in the heat.

Why choose Ace Kustoms for custom garage cabinets

Built for heat and humidity

Furniture-grade plywood holds screws and stays flat far better than particleboard, which swells and crumbles in damp garages. We seal every face and edge, including the backs and undersides most kits leave bare.

Raised off the slab

Cabinets hang on a wall cleat or sit on adjustable plastic or metal legs 4 to 6 inches above the floor. Water from storms, washing the car or a failed water heater does not wick into the boxes.

Fits around your vehicles

Depths are chosen so car doors still open and bumpers clear the cabinets. Shallow 12 to 16-inch cabinets on the side walls and deeper 24-inch bases on the back wall are a common layout.

Locking storage for chemicals

Pool chemicals, pesticides, fuel cans and power tools can be kept in lockable cabinets away from kids and pets. We keep incompatible chemicals in separate cabinets with ventilation gaps. Keys stay with the adults.

Workbench with real support

A workbench with a 1-3/4-inch laminated hardwood or plywood top, steel-reinforced front edge and full-extension drawers holds vises, tool chests and heavy projects without flexing. Slides are rated for 100 pounds or more where tools are stored.

Clean, closed look

Doors hide the clutter that makes garages feel chaotic. A garage with closed cabinets looks organized even when bins and tools behind the doors are not perfectly arranged. It also cuts down on dust.

Styles, materials and options

Wall-hung upper cabinets

Cabinets 12 to 16 inches deep mounted on a French cleat above car hoods. They keep the floor clear for sweeping and parking and hold paint cans, car supplies and seasonal items.

Tall lockers

Full-height cabinets 18 to 24 inches deep for brooms, mops, sports gear, fishing rods and golf bags. Adjustable shelves and hooks inside handle oddly shaped items that do not fit in bins.

Workbench and tool drawers

A bench at 36 to 38 inches high with deep drawers on heavy-duty slides, a pegboard or slatwall backsplash and outlets above the top. The top can be hardwood, phenolic or laminate over plywood.

Overhead and bin storage

Open shelves sized for standard 27-gallon storage bins, plus overhead platforms above the garage door rail where clearance allows. Good for holiday decorations and camping gear. We check door opener and rail clearances first.

Finish choices

Durable catalyzed paint or clear coats on plywood, or high-pressure laminate faces for maximum scrub resistance. Light colors keep the garage brighter and show less heat-related fading over time. Hardware is coated or stainless.

Mudroom-style garage entry

A bench, hooks and cubbies at the door into the house so shoes, backpacks and coats stay in the garage. A practical option for homes without room for a full indoor mudroom.

Our process

  1. Measure cars and clearances. We measure the garage, your vehicles, door swings, garage door tracks, water heater and electrical panel. These clearances set the maximum cabinet depths along every wall.
  2. Plan the zones. We group storage by use: workbench and tools, sports and outdoor gear, cleaning supplies, chemicals and seasonal bins. You review a drawing with sizes, doors and locks.
  3. Select materials and finish. You choose finish colors, hardware and work-surface materials. We recommend finishes and hardware that handle heat, humidity and scrubbing in a non-conditioned space. We explain the tradeoffs of each.
  4. Build and seal in the shop. We build the cabinets from plywood in our Houston shop and seal every face and edge before delivery. Doors and drawers get stainless or coated hardware where helpful.
  5. Install on cleats or legs. The crew mounts cabinets to studs on French cleats or sets them on adjustable legs, levels everything on the sloped slab and adjusts doors before the final walkthrough.

What affects the cost

  • Total wall length covered and the mix of upper, base and tall cabinets drive the main cost.
  • Workbenches with heavy-duty drawers and thick tops add materials and hardware.
  • Laminate faces and catalyzed finishes cost more than basic paint but last longer in the heat.
  • Locks, slatwall, specialty racks and overhead storage add hardware and labor.
  • New outlets, lighting or moving a water softener or freezer can add electrical or plumbing work.

For general planning, a single wall of custom garage cabinets in Greater Houston often runs about $4,000 to $9,000, and a full two-car garage with a workbench, tall lockers and upper cabinets can range from $10,000 to $25,000 or more. These figures depend on size, materials and site conditions. We provide a written estimate after measuring your garage and vehicles.

Built for Houston conditions

Houston garages are not conditioned, so cabinets face high heat, high humidity and big temperature swings. Plywood with sealed edges and finishes rated for those conditions holds up much better than particleboard kits. Most garage slabs slope toward the door for drainage, so we level cabinets with adjustable legs or wall cleats rather than shimming against the floor. Storms can push water under the garage door, and some areas see flooding, so keeping boxes 4 to 6 inches off the slab is strongly recommended. We also keep clearances around water heaters, electrical panels and the fire-rated wall between the garage and house.

Custom Garage Cabinets FAQs

Will wood cabinets hold up in a Houston garage?
Furniture-grade plywood with sealed edges and a durable finish does well in a garage. The key is keeping it off the slab and sealing every surface, including backs and undersides. Particleboard and MDF kits are the ones that swell and fail in humid garages. For areas that get wet often, laminate faces add more protection.
How deep should garage cabinets be?
Along side walls next to parked cars, 12 to 16 inches is usually the limit so car doors can open. On the back wall, 18 to 24 inches often works if your vehicles leave enough room. We measure your cars and door swings before deciding depths.
Can garage cabinets sit on the floor?
We recommend raising them. Garage floors can get wet from storms, car washing or a leaking water heater. Wall-hung cabinets on cleats or bases on adjustable legs 4 to 6 inches off the slab avoid water damage and make sweeping easier.
Can you build around my water heater and electrical panel?
Yes, but those require clear working space. Electrical panels need open clearance in front of them, and water heaters need access for service and ventilation. We plan the cabinet layout around these areas and never enclose them in a way that blocks access or airflow.
Can I store chemicals in garage cabinets?
Yes, with care. We recommend lockable cabinets for pool chemicals, pesticides and fuel, with ventilation gaps and separation between incompatible products. Always follow product label storage instructions, and keep fuel and flammables away from water heaters and other ignition sources.
Do you add outlets to the workbench?
We can build power strips or outlet locations into the workbench backsplash, with a licensed electrician providing the circuit. Garage outlets generally need ground-fault protection. Planning this before installation keeps cords off the work surface and out of the way.
