Fort Bend County · Surfaces & Lighting
From islands and vanities to bars and built-in desks, we plan countertop surfaces across Fort Bend County. Richmond projects start with a free in-home estimate.
Richmond is the Fort Bend County seat, set on the Brazos River southwest of Sugar Land. Its historic downtown holds county government buildings and older homes, while newer subdivisions and master-planned communities spread out around it. It borders Rosenberg to the west, and US 59 and US 90A connect it to Houston.
Richmond has historic homes near downtown, mid-century houses and many newer subdivisions. Older homes can have pier-and-beam floors and plaster walls, calling for careful leveling and trim matching, while newer homes want builder-grade upgrades, scullery pantries and mudroom drop zones. Rural properties nearby often need garage and shop storage.
Older homes in Richmond often still have tile or laminate counters on cabinets that have settled over the decades. Before stone goes on, we check the cabinets for level and soundness, repair water damage at the sink base and add support where needed. Walls in older homes are rarely straight, so careful templating and well-planned backsplashes help the new countertops fit cleanly.
Every project starts with an in-home measurement in Richmond. We build in our Houston shop and the same crew handles installation, so the person you talk to at the estimate is accountable for the result. Learn more about our full countertops & surface work service.
You do not have to manage a separate countertop vendor and cabinet installer who blame each other when something does not fit. We handle the coordination and take responsibility for how the cabinets and tops come together.
We level and shim base cabinets to within a sixteenth of an inch across the run, add solid blocking at seams and sink bases, and install steel supports for overhangs. A flat, rigid base is the best protection against cracked stone.
Slab sizes limit how long a single piece can be, so we plan seam locations during design, keeping them away from sinks and cooktops and where they will be least visible, rather than letting a fabricator decide on the day of templating.
We explain the real-world differences between quartz, granite, marble, solid surface and wood, including heat resistance, staining, etching and maintenance, so you choose a surface that suits how you actually cook and clean.

Houston slab foundations can shift slightly with the expansive clay soils common in the region, which is one more reason we set cabinets carefully level and add solid support at seams. Stone does not tolerate flex, so a rigid base matters. Humidity affects wood tops more than stone, so butcher block near sinks needs a well-maintained finish on all sides, including the underside. Outdoor kitchens and covered patios face heat, UV and moisture, and some quartz products are not rated for outdoor use, so we recommend granite or other suitable materials there. Older homes often have walls that bow, so we template carefully and use backsplashes to cover small gaps.
Fort Bend sits on flat, low ground along the Brazos River and its creeks, and humidity stays high most of the year. We use plywood boxes and stable door construction to handle seasonal swelling. For homes in areas that have seen high water, we can discuss raised toe kicks, moisture-resistant bases in laundry rooms and garages, and finishes that tolerate wipe-downs. Good ventilation in bathrooms protects vanity finishes over time.
As a general planning range, installed countertops in Greater Houston often run about $50 to $120 per square foot for quartz and granite, $40 to $90 for solid surface, and $100 to $200 or more for premium marble and quartzite. A typical kitchen may need 40 to 60 square feet. Pricing varies with materials and site conditions, so get a written estimate.
