Harris County · Trim, Doors & Stairs
Is your Houston front door letting in light, air or water? We install exterior doors with proper flashing and seals for Harris County homes.
Houston is where our shop is, in the 77009 zip code just north of downtown. The city covers an enormous range of neighborhoods, from prewar streets inside the 610 Loop to postwar suburbs and newer infill along the freeways. Our crew works across all of it, so most Houston projects are a short drive from the bench where the cabinets are built.
Houston housing runs from 1920s bungalows and 1950s ranch homes to modern townhomes stacked three stories high. Older houses usually need cabinets scribed to out-of-square walls and trim matched to existing profiles. Townhomes bring narrow kitchens, tall ceilings and stairs, which favor slim storage, full-height uppers and careful planning for delivery up tight stairwells.
Humidity and storms in Houston are hard on doors. Wood doors swell and stick, while poorly flashed exterior doors let water into framing and subfloors. We seal all edges of wood doors, install sill pans and flashing on exterior doors and use rot-resistant materials where water exposure is high. That keeps doors working well and frames sound for years. It pays off.
Every project starts with an in-home measurement in Houston. We build in our Houston shop and the same crew handles installation, so the person you talk to at the estimate is accountable for the result. Learn more about our full interior & exterior door installations service.
Quality weatherstripping, adjustable thresholds and door sweeps keep out conditioned-air leaks, insects and wind-driven rain. That matters in Houston, where the AC runs most of the year and summer storms push water sideways.
New doors usually need new casing. We match existing trim profiles or upgrade to a new casing style throughout the house, with tight miters and clean caulk joints for a finished look.
Hinges, locksets, deadbolts and strike plates are installed with properly sized mortises and long screws into framing for security. We align latch and strike so doors close smoothly and lock without force.
We shim jambs to plumb and level in both directions, check diagonals for square and set even reveals of about 1/8 inch around the slab. A properly hung door stays where you leave it and closes without slamming or rubbing.

Houston humidity makes wood doors and jambs swell, which is why doors that close easily in winter can stick in August. We set reveals with seasonal movement in mind and seal all edges of wood doors, including tops and bottoms. Exterior doors face wind-driven rain during storms, so proper sill pans and flashing are essential, and we often find rotted bottoms of jambs on older doors. In coastal areas toward Galveston County and Brazoria County, windstorm-rated doors and installation methods may be required, and we confirm requirements before ordering. Fiberglass entry doors handle heat and humidity well, while dark-colored steel doors in direct western sun can get very hot.
Houston humidity is the main thing we design around. Solid wood moves with the seasons, so we use furniture-grade plywood for cabinet boxes and shelves, and frame-and-panel doors that let panels float. Sink bases get extra finish protection, and in neighborhoods along bayous or in flood-prone zones we can raise toe kicks or use moisture-resistant materials on the lowest components. Keeping the house conditioned during installation helps everything settle in properly.
As a general planning range, installing a solid-core prehung interior door in Greater Houston often runs about $450 to $1,100 per door including casing, while exterior entry doors commonly run $1,800 to $6,000 or more depending on material, glass and sidelites. Pricing varies by door, materials and site conditions, so please get a written estimate.
