Tired of cables and consoles cluttering the family room in your The Woodlands home? Ace Kustoms builds custom entertainment centers throughout Montgomery County from our Houston shop.
The Woodlands is a large planned community north of Houston along I-45, mostly in Montgomery County with a small portion in Harris County. It was laid out around preserved forest, with villages separated by greenbelts, trails and lakes. Market Street and The Woodlands Waterway form its town center.
Many Woodlands homes were built in the 1980s and 1990s under tall pines, with oak cabinets, soffits and traditional trim now ready for replacement. Newer villages have larger, open homes. Common work includes full kitchen remodels, soffit removal with ceiling-height uppers, paneled studies, two-story fireplace walls and outdoor kitchens on screened or covered patios.
Families in The Woodlands often have game consoles, controllers, streaming devices and piles of board games competing for space. A custom entertainment center gives each a place, with drawers for controllers, ventilated cabinets for consoles and closed storage for games and blankets. Doors keep things tidy when guests arrive, and adjustable shelves adapt as kids grow and their interests and devices change.
Every project starts with an in-home measurement in The Woodlands. We build in our Houston shop and the same crew handles installation, so the person you talk to at the estimate is accountable for the result. Learn more about our full custom entertainment centers service.
Receivers, consoles and streaming boxes need airflow. We use perforated or slatted back panels, cut vents in shelves, and can add quiet thermostatically controlled fans so electronics stay cool behind closed doors.
IR remotes need line of sight, so equipment doors can use speaker cloth, cane, perforated metal or glass panels that let signals through. Alternatively, we plan for an IR repeater or RF remote system.
We design the TV opening with a few inches of clearance around the current screen and room to upgrade to a slightly larger one later. Overall proportions are balanced against the room, windows and ceiling height.
Plywood cases with solid hardwood faces handle the weight of heavy receivers and subwoofers. Long shelves are reinforced with hardwood edges or steel to prevent sag, and the unit is fastened to studs for safety.

Electronics in closed cabinets can overheat quickly, and that risk goes up in Houston homes where the AC works hard in summer and rooms near west-facing windows heat up in the afternoon. We plan ventilation paths and can add quiet fans. Many local homes have the TV wall on an exterior wall, so we check insulation and leave an air gap behind the cabinetry to avoid condensation. Slab floors in older homes are rarely level across a 12 to 16-foot wall, so we shim and scribe to keep long shelves and doors aligned. Power surges from summer storms are common, so we recommend planning space and access for a quality surge protector inside the cabinet.
Shade from the pines keeps some homes cooler but can trap moisture, and humidity remains a factor year-round. We build boxes from plywood and choose stable door constructions. For lake homes, we plan finishes for damp air and for rooms where doors are opened often. Garage and outdoor cabinets get materials and finishes meant for heat swings, and for homes near the San Jacinto River or Spring Creek we can discuss raised bases.
As a general planning range, a custom floating media console in Greater Houston often runs about $2,500 to $6,000, while a full built-in entertainment center or media wall commonly falls between $8,000 and $25,000 depending on size and detail. Every room is different, so treat these as rough numbers and get a written estimate.
