From locker walls to folding counters, Ace Kustoms builds combined laundry and mudroom cabinetry for River Oaks and the rest of Harris County.
River Oaks lies between downtown and Uptown, south of Buffalo Bayou and north of Westheimer. It is one of Houston's best-known residential neighborhoods, with large lots, mature live oaks and stately homes in a range of traditional styles. Projects here tend to be detailed, and owners expect cabinetry and trim that match the architecture.
Homes in River Oaks include prewar estates, mid-century residences and newer custom builds, many with formal rooms, libraries and butler pantries. Work often involves paneled walls, inset cabinetry, detailed crown and casing, and fitting new pieces into older plaster walls. Built-in bars, dressing rooms and display cabinets are common requests alongside full kitchen replacements.
Smaller homes in River Oaks may only have a narrow laundry hallway between the garage and kitchen. Even there, a stacked washer and dryer with a tall cabinet, a slim bench and wall hooks can create a functional combo. We plan every inch so the walkway stays clear and the room handles both jobs without feeling crowded. Hooks can sit on the door side.
Every project starts with an in-home measurement in River Oaks. We build in our Houston shop and the same crew handles installation, so the person you talk to at the estimate is accountable for the result. Learn more about our full custom laundry & mudroom combos service.
A dog bed nook under a bench, a leash and harness hook station, a pull-out food bin and a wash-down area can all fit into the mudroom side, keeping pet supplies together and out of the kitchen.
Sealed plywood cabinets, durable painted or laminate finishes and stone, quartz or laminate counters stand up to wet shoes, spilled detergent and constant traffic better than particleboard kit cabinets. Edges are sealed.
A clear drop zone by the door and a laundry zone by the machines keep muddy shoes and clean towels apart. Each zone gets the storage it needs, and traffic flows through without blocking anyone doing laundry.
Shoes, backpacks, sports gear and coats are stopped at the door, in lockers or cubbies. The rest of the house stays cleaner, and kids have a clear place to drop things when they come home.

Houston laundry rooms deal with dryer heat, washer moisture and outside humidity coming in with every trip from the garage. We use sealed plywood, keep cabinets off the floor near machines where possible and use finishes that resist moisture. Dryer vents should take the shortest route outside, and we never box them in tightly. On slab foundations, moving machines or adding a sink means cutting concrete, so we place them near existing plumbing when we can. Wet shoes and rain gear dry better in open cubbies with airflow than in closed lockers, which can trap moisture and odors.
Houston humidity is the main thing we design around. Solid wood moves with the seasons, so we use furniture-grade plywood for cabinet boxes and shelves, and frame-and-panel doors that let panels float. Sink bases get extra finish protection, and in neighborhoods along bayous or in flood-prone zones we can raise toe kicks or use moisture-resistant materials on the lowest components. Keeping the house conditioned during installation helps everything settle in properly.
For general planning, a combined laundry and mudroom in Greater Houston often runs around $8,000 to $18,000 for cabinetry, benches and counters, while larger rooms with a sink, pet station and full-height storage can range from $20,000 to $35,000 or more. Plumbing and electrical vary. These are planning ranges only, so get a written estimate after we measure.
