Harris County · Cabinetry & Built-Ins
In Harris County, media room projects range from a single screen wall to full theaters with snack bars. Here is how we approach them in Spring.
Spring is a large unincorporated area in north Harris County along I-45, just south of The Woodlands and Spring Creek. Its historic center, Old Town Spring, has shops in older buildings, while the area around it is made up of many subdivisions. The Hardy Toll Road and the Grand Parkway cross the area.
Spring's housing is mostly suburban homes built from the 1970s onward, with newer subdivisions closer to the Grand Parkway. Many older homes have oak cabinets, soffits and builder trim, and some neighborhoods along creeks have flooded. Kitchen remodels, closet upgrades and raised-base cabinets in laundry rooms are frequent projects, along with game room built-ins.
For homeowners in Spring thinking about resale, a well-designed media room can be a strong selling point. Quality cabinetry, hidden wiring and good ventilation show buyers the space was planned carefully. Keeping the design flexible allows future owners to update equipment and screens without replacing the cabinetry. Buyers who do not want a theater can still use the cabinetry for a game room, family room or home gym, so the investment is not lost if the room changes purpose.
Every project starts with an in-home measurement in Spring. We build in our Houston shop and the same crew handles installation, so the person you talk to at the estimate is accountable for the result. Learn more about our full custom media room cabinetry service.
Dark, matte stains and paints around the screen reduce reflections that wash out the picture. Glossy finishes and glass doors are kept away from the front wall, where they would bounce light back at viewers.
Conduit, grommets and chases are built in so cables run behind the woodwork. IR repeaters, RF remotes or glass-front racks keep equipment controllable even behind closed cabinet doors. Spare conduit allows future upgrades.
Drawers for controllers, headsets and cables, shelves for games and discs, and cabinets for blankets and pillows keep the room clean and ready to use without trips to other rooms.
We work from your AV installer's speaker layout, screen size and projector throw distance, so the cabinets fit the system instead of forcing the system to fit the cabinets. Changes are easy on paper.

Media rooms in Houston are often upstairs or over garages, where heat builds quickly in summer and AC struggles to keep up. Add equipment heat, and closed cabinets can get very warm. We design ventilation carefully and recommend confirming that the room has adequate HVAC capacity. Exterior walls in these rooms see temperature swings, so we leave air gaps and seal cabinet backs. On slab foundations, running power or conduit to floor locations is difficult, so we plan wiring through walls and risers. Dark finishes show dust, and humidity can affect fabric panels, so we choose durable materials.
Houston humidity is the main thing we design around. Solid wood moves with the seasons, so we use furniture-grade plywood for cabinet boxes and shelves, and frame-and-panel doors that let panels float. Sink bases get extra finish protection, and in neighborhoods along bayous or in flood-prone zones we can raise toe kicks or use moisture-resistant materials on the lowest components. Keeping the house conditioned during installation helps everything settle in properly.
For general planning, a media room front wall with speaker bays and storage in Greater Houston often runs around $10,000 to $22,000, while full rooms with equipment racks, riser storage and a snack counter can range from $25,000 to $50,000 or more, not counting AV equipment. These are planning ranges, so ask for a written estimate after we review your plans.
